Sahil Lavingia
Interesting TechCrunch video interview with current Silicon Valley darling 19 yr old Sahil Lavingia, who had a big hand in the Pinterest and Turntable.fm products. I only post industry stuff on this blog if I think it will be interesting to you, dear reader, but this dude is so humble and clear-eyed that his success story is totally unique.
Also, when the college grad interviewer says “I regret going to college…I really do” around 7:30, it sounds disingenuous and stupid. You don’t mean that, its like rich celebrities saying they miss riding the NYC subway. This entrepreneurship cult of youth gets so silly. Not everyone is meant to be a founder, not everyone is meant to drop out of college, if you want to take the opportunity to engage in academic as opposed to experiential learning for four years and you have the means to do so, you don’t need to make these contorted statements for the benefits of others. If you didn’t pull the trigger on something, you probably had your reasons at the time. The whole point of the Silicon Valley maverick ethos is to do what’s right for you, your goals, and your vision, not just emulate empty behaviors that represent positive signals to partners & investors.
