An Object of Beauty by Steve Martin
I really enjoyed Object of Beauty by Steve Martin. Its about a manipulative young woman clawing her way up the ladder in the NYC art scene. I’ve read Martin’s two other novels as well and although none of the books are masterpieces, I usually tear right through them. Super entertaining. Shout out to TellApartan Dave Eisenberg for lending me the book.

Then Miss Hawaii and Miss Teen Hawaii were like “Greg! Greg! Can we get a picture?!” and in my head I was like “Arghh…I’m on vacation.” But there I am, smiling like I don’t have a care in the world….#professionalism

Mitterand's Funeral
In college I had to take a French cultural studies class before studying abroad. (French digression: I was figuring out my schedule in college one time and attended a French class taught by Dave Macklovitch, half of Quebecois duo Chromeo. At the time I didn’t know he did music, but he was already a recognizeable campus character because he dressed so ridiculously well.) Probably the most...

OK, its too hard to only blog about French stuff and nothing else for a week. You will all still get seven good French-related posts, but it will take longer than a week will be interrupted with other stuff.

Minimal Art by Marzona
This book is totally awesome. Not too dense, not too light, plenty of good photos and essays…I’ve learned a lot from it. To wit: “It was partly the relatively problem-free integration of the avant-garde into the mechanisms of the art market and its rapid acceptance in the institutions of established visual art, which caused such artists as Daniel Buren, Hans Haacke, and...

Jay-z On Charlie Rose
Watched this on Hulu last night….awwwwkward!!! Couldn’t actually watch the whole thing. As a big Charlie Rose fan, I will admit that sometimes he has no idea what he is talking about and would do well to shut up. He’ll be interviewing some Nobel Laureate in Economics, interrupting the guy with some inane, overreaching comment….shut your pie hole, Charlie, you’re an...

Thomas Moser, Cabinet Maker
I was walking around Pacific Heights the other week (fancy!!) and found this great furniture store, Thomas Moser. Beautiful woods, I love the mix of styles: mid-century Modern and American Craftsman come to mind.  For whatever reason, people at furniture stores, even high end furniture stores are much more chatty than people at art galleries. I find you can learn a ton going to furniture stores,...

Rick Ross & Urban Ink
These Urban Ink covers always catch my eye in the airport news stand stores. I might need to buy it for the flight back to SF, find out what the deal is with the Abe Lincoln and Statue of Liberty tattoos.

Michael Moritz
Gift from @mlz (thanks man!).  Dang, Michael Moritz can write really, really well. Recommended. Coincidentally, this book was published by The Overlook Press, a small independent publishing house where I had my first college internship.

UFC
I don’t really watch sports, but I was totally engrossed by UFC 125, which I watched the other night at The Tilted Kilt, a Celtic themed Hooters where I am now the mayor. I literally could not look away, something I’ve never felt when watching sports. This is a photo of Brandon Vera looking at the big screens in the venue immediately after his match, and laughing when he sees that...

J.Crew
Uggggghhhh, Men’s Quoddy® suede chukka boots via J. Crew The way that J.Crew curates other brands is incredible. Look at this beautiful page of men’s goods from all different brands.  This approach to branding/retail seems so appropriate in the age of the blog/Tumblr. You can define a much richer aesthetic vision by pulling from elsewhere. The multibrand approach actually seems...

Androgynous swagger posted above the toilet by one of my apt’s previous tenants. Would work even better above a urinal.
