The Best of the Best
I learned a lot about San Francisco while spending yesterday looking at sublets on Craigslist. Some key observations, along with my favorite Craigs List quotables: 1) People in SF dig communal living. One living situation even had a clothing optional communal sauna! I’ve lived here since the 1980s, when I moved in with members of a performance group (Contraband) whose studios were in...

The Museum Race
This photo, taken by journo-bro Ted Hills, made the front page of the Shelter Island Reporter this week. Nice shot, Ted! Original Caption: A fleet fit for a museum Herreshoffs beat upwind during a recent Shelter Island Yacht Club race named the “Museum Race” — the trophy was donated by the Herreshoff Marine Museum in Bristol, Rhode Island. The sturdy sailboats are a common sight in...

Visit to SF Moma
This weekend I went to the SFMoma exhibit of the Fisher Collection.  Donald Fisher founded the Gap and when he died he gave some incredible art to the museum. A bunch of great stuff from one of my favorite artists, Donald Judd. Antony Gormley Sculpture: Sol LeWitt: More Chuck Close’s than I’ve ever seen including crazy photorealist drawings: ‘ and the above...

Carl Hiaasen
This weekend I dipped into a Carl Hiassen book, Striptease, and I have to say its really fantastic. Hiassen recently put out a new book Star Island and my dad got some of his old stuff out at the library. Carl Hiassen is a former staff writer for the Miami Herald. Florida, the magical state where your primary residence can’t be seized by creditors and thus home to OJ Simpson, has a...

Aurel Schmidt
I’ve really been digging this artist Aurel Schmidt recently.  Its been interest watching interviews with her on YouTube. She keeps you on your toes by saying something profound and smart, then following it up with something inane and seemingly idiotic. Its hard to tell if she’s just saying everything that comes into her head without filtering, or if its a carefully crafted...

Barcelona Boat Party
This weekend I travelled to a magical, floating city of frattiness called the Barcelona Boat Party aka Aquapalooza. It is held in Sag Harbor, NY every year… or at least every year when they can get the permits. There’s a live band playing on a barge and dozens of boaters, kayakers, and random floaters come together to enjoy the day. In this photo I spy -my brother wearing a...
